- עָרְמָהf. (b. h.; preced.) prudence, deliberation; subtlety. Mekh. Bshall., Shir., s. 6 (ref. to נערמו, Ex. 15:8, v. Targ. O. a. l.) הם אמרו הבה נתחכמה … נתת ע׳ למים they had said, Come, let us deal wisely with them (Ex. 1:10), thou, too, didst place wisdom in the water; (Yalk. Ex. 248 עַרְמוּמִית). Midr. Sam. ch. VII (read:) לפי מה שהיתה עָרְמָתוֹ של נחש כך היתה מכתו in accordance with the serpents subtlety was its punishment. Midr. Prov. ch.
